Web Design Trends To Look For In 2014

As with anything in life, every year brings many changes and trends, especially in the world of technology. With another year almost in the books, it is that time to look ahead and see what 2014 may have to offer us in the world of web design.

1. Flat design- Like it or not, since Apple’s release of iOS7, a new trend was started that I’m sure we will be seeing much more of. “Flat design” is a design technique in which details like drop shadows and gradients are not used in order to provide less of a 3D effect in order to make it look more flat.

2. Mobile development- Since responsive web design is gaining more popularity amongst websites, there is becoming a larger demand for more mobile-friendly websites. Since most people use their mobile devices to browse the web, it comes as no surprise that designers are likely to come up with ideas to make the Internet a more mobile-friendly place.

3. Content- Content writing has been one of the most effective tools in web design and Internet marketing, especially over the last year. This trend will continue for 2014, but in a much simpler form. Since blogs are the only things on websites that tend to be lengthier in content, usually around 300 words, website content will continue to remain shorter in order to provide the user the convenience of obtaining the information they are looking for without lengthly explanations.

4. HTML5- Not only has HTML5 made it easer for designers to bring web pages to mobile devices, with the use of programs such as this, they have also been able to provide the ability to create animations and play videos. This will allow for users to experience greater interaction with a website and keep them coming back.

5. Typography- Simplicity may be a popular trend when it comes to web design, but not when you consider types of typefaces. Watch out Helvetica…a predicted trend for 2014 is the use of fonts that can stand alone and are unique in their design, you know, ones with a personality. Although choosing a typeface with personality may be a new trend, it is important to remember to keep it professional looking!

Whether or not these web design predictions ring true, it is essential to stay up to date on the current web design techniques and programs to ensure your website is not only search engine friendly, but customized for your business’ needs.
