Standing Out From The Clutter

Following all the website design trends doesn’t make you a leader online, but implementing a few that suit your business can earn your business industry recognition and exposure. Changing your websites format constantly can confuse users, but outdated websites aren’t as appealing and have lower visitor volumes. Windy City Web Designs gathered a list of current design trends that you might consider applying to your website.

1. Clean Icons: With Apple rolling out iOS7 this fall, companies must revise their app icons with a flat design to keep a clean and image on the new system design. We reported on the flat fad a while ago and highlighted the advantages of the cleaner look. Clean icons are simple and give a sense of elegance to your business. You don’t want to stand out on an a screen for being the “ugly app”.

2. Bold Colors: If you haven’t noticed, the app store is doused in a single hue: blue. The color is supposed to rouse calm, peaceful feelings, but nearly every app is blue and it impedes on the nature of an innovative designer. Find a color that suits your target market. If you’re targeting a high-energy crowd, try orange; it suggests fun and flamboyancy. If you’re targeting high end markets, try black; it exudes mystery and exclusivity. Try pastels, neons, grayscale – anything that suits your style, anything but blue.

3. Web Typography: Fonts are a web design staple, but designers should utilize one that has the characteristics of a delicacy. It should be unique, sleek, and readable. Having pretty typography provides more than just aesthetics. It can give your website a unique flair, providing support to your branding, or make up for long blocks of text, highlighting important excerpts and fostering interest in the body of text as a whole.

4. Unique Scrolling: Implementing a unique scrolling pattern can be a risk. You don’t want to confuse visitors with a dizzying, unfamiliar website path. Parallax scrolling provides breaks in pages that would otherwise black and white blocks of words. You can incorporate related pictures, videos, and other features to immerse the visitor in the main idea. Another trend, infinite scrolling has gained popularity among blogs. This compiles highly sought after information in infinite volutes, all on one page. The challenge, though, is keeping a fast load time and creating an organized navigation.
