eBay Enterprise announced this week that they will be merging with Magento, an e-commerce technology platform, in order to create a single business unit. The idea is that this merger will benefit Magento merchants and developers by continuing to provide the quality and innovative ideas of eBay Enterprise in order to make them the leader in this highly-competitive industry.

Magento, which is part of eBay’s X.Commerce technology division, is one of the most used e-commerce platforms that allows its merchants to have complete control over their shopping carts. Magento also features an advanced internal platform that allows for better management for on-line retailers with items such as tracking shipments, managing inventory,and adding new products. With the additional features such as its easy integration with Google Analytics, search engine friendly URLs, and advanced search capabilities, Magento is used by more than 150,000 retailers.

In a blog posted by Magento last week, they stated that, “By combining the extensive capabilities of our leading organizations, we are bringing the ecommerce technology, multichannel operations and marketing services capabilities of eBay Inc. together under one umbrella. Moving forward, retail and brand partners of all sizes will find an unmatched portfolio of offerings that seamlessly deliver integrated commerce solutions to drive their revenue and growth.”

Like with any merger, this can be a scary thought to retailers who already use Magento for their e-commerce platform. Magento, however, went on to say in their blog that, “For Magento, it’s business as usual.”

As far as details are concerned, Magento and eBay Enterprise have not divulged much more information. They have said that more information will be released in the coming months and stated in the blog on how their “clients will be able to compete and win in the ever-changing retail landscape.”
