How To Layout Your Website

Their have been many mistakes over the last few years, when people have been making their website designs. Here are a few tips for creating the perfect website.

1. Putting Thoughts On Paper

Most designers just jump into Photoshop and start drawing out what their design is going to be. It’s best to start on a piece of paper, to get a better understanding on what you really want to say. Every drawing has a story. Think about the content and the layout and see if it’s functional.

2. Sketching Out Your Framework

Creating a top level framework will help get rid of the design problems. The framework is UI and it surrounds the content. Also helps performing and navigating through the site. Includes sidebars and bottom bars.

3.  Adding A Grid

You need a proper grid to start out your design layout. If you don’t have this grid one way or other, your design is not going to show up as well. With this grid it will help you layout different sections of your site, and guide you through it. This will help you create a responsive template.

4. Typography

Rule of thumb for choosing your typography is never pick more than two typefaces. If you do so, your site is going to be hard to follow and read. Pick a font that is easy to read and your able to look at it for a long period of time. You don’t want something that is to abstract and annoying.

5. Color Theme

You should use a limited set of colors and tones that wont’ be against the visual overload. Use a set of colors and tones for a general interface. Then maybe a use another set of colors for the important content. For examples, look at Facebook or Twitter.

6. Dividing The Layout

If the structure of the site is simple, it’s very easy for users to navigate. Every section has it’s own story. Needs to highlight the content and more important pieces in each story. Once you leave your site as simple as it should be, later on down the road it’s going to be difficult to keep it simple.
