Basics Of Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) will help keep your site properly so it can be found at any critical point in the buying process.  The purpose of SEO is to create a great seamless user experience and be able to communicate to the search engines.

1. What Is SEO

Think of your website like a cake, it holds all the Content, Information Architecture, Platform/CMS, and Infrastructure. Along with the links, SEM, and Social Media. Without having your links and paid search or social media you have no icing for the cake. Your content, information architecture, content management system and infrastructure acts as the sugar and without those important factors, your cake will have no taste and will be boring.

2. What They Are Looking For

Search engines want to make sure they can refer users to your website and content that is more relevant to what they are looking for.

  • Content is being determined by the theme and text on a page that is given and the titles and descriptions.
  • Performance is how fast your site is and does it work effectively?
  • Authority is how good enough your content is on your site and do other sites use your website as a reference.
  • User experience is how your site looks, and how easy it is to navigate through it and is it safe.

3. What They Are Not Looking For

If you try to perform a shady tactic or trick them your only going to hurt yourself in the long run. Search engine spiders only have so much data storage. Here is what they are not looking for.

  • Keyword stuffing can be keywords that are being overused on your pages.
  • Purchasing links will get you no where in SEO, so don’t bother.
  • Poor user experience will make users turn away quick.  Many ads are making it hard for people to find content they are looking for.

4. Business Model

Some questions to sit down and ask yourself and set some goals for your business.

  • Define a conversation to you?
  • What are your long-term and short-term goals?
  • What are your assets and liabilities?
  • Are you selling the impressions?

5. Social Media

Think about all your multi-channel optimizations. This includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Email and other offline sites. If your consistent with keyword phrases within the platforms it will not just help your branding effort. But to train users to certain phrases that are used to optimize your site.
